Ostrich Farm
Twelve years ago Prof. K Frimpong-Boateng became the first Ghanaian to establish a commercial ostrich farm in Ghana.
The farm is located at Mafi Dedukope, in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is one and half mile drive from Accra, the capital city.
Presently with a modest bird population of 350 birds the farm is doing reasonably well.
The farm has its own incubator with a capacity of 250 eggs.
The major challenge facing the farm as with other farms in |Ghana is the absence of ready market for the most important ostrich product-the skin. Consequently the skins are air-freighted to South Africa for processing and sale.
