Education: He had his secondary education at
Sekondi College from. He was admitted for the pre-science programme at the
University of
Ghana in 1968 before being enrolled into the pre-med programme in 1969. In 1975 Prof. Frimpong-Boateng obtained the MB.ChB degree of the University of Ghana Medical School(UGMS). At the U.G.M.S, he was the best candidate in the final examination in 1975 and winner of the Easmon Prize in Surgery. He became a House Office at the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and served as a Medical Office at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was also a Demonstrator in Morbid Anatomy at the
School of
Medical Sciences at the then
University of
Science and Technology from. He proceeded to Germany in 1978 for further studies where he spent more than a decade, first for language studies at the Goethe Institutes at Radolfzell(April- May 1978) and Boppard(June-September 1978) and eventually to the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (Hannover Medical High school), Germany from October 1978 to December 1988 where he earned the following academic qualifications: Facharzt Chirurgie ; Arzt, Thorax & Kardivasc Chirurgie; MD ; and Arzt, Gefäßchirurgie.

Professional Positions Held: The immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as well as Director of the National Cardiothoracic Center and President of the Ghana Heart Foundation. Prof. Frimpong-Boateng is a member of various professional associations. These include the West African College of Surgeons, Ghana Medical Association, German Society of Surgery, International Society for Heart Transplantation, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, European Chapter of the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery and International Society for Surgery. He was elected Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in December 2002.
